Our volunteer spotlight this newsletter is Maria Rizzuti. Maria is one of our dedicated dog volunteers who spends her spare time volunteering time walking, playing, feeding, medicating and giving car rides to our deserving pups at MHS. Maria began volunteering at MHS almost a decade ago. Her first introduction to us was after Maria ran a 5K fundraising road race to support us, and then later attended an open house at the shelter. While touring the shelter, Maria inquired about volunteer opportunities; specifically walking dogs. Although working full time, Maria devoted Sunday afternoons almost every week to the loveable canines at MHS and as she says herself, “the rest is history”. Although she began by being the self-described “crazy dog walker” as time went on Maria got more involved in finding our dogs their furever homes, taking part in intake evaluations, potential adopter meet and greets, and even home visits. There is no doubt that over her 10 years with us Maria has had some part in the adoption of 100s of dogs and the care of 100s more. From our entire MHS family and all the dogs Maria has cared for over the years we want to spotlight her to thank her for her dedication.
