Letter from the New Board President

Hello and Happy Holidays!

I wanted to take a short opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Jeff Parkhurst and I am your newly elected President of the Meriden Humane Society Board of Directors. I have been a member of the Board of Directors since 2018 and my wife and I have been MHS volunteers since 2017. My family consists of my wife Katie, our son Oak, our rescue dog Mandy, our bird Fi, and our fish Lewis. I am ecstatic to be able to lead the Board of Directors in serving our community in the coming year.

This year has been incredibly hard on all of us, and I want to extend my personal gratitude and that of the rest of the board of directors when I thank our donors, volunteers, staff, and general supporters throughout our entire community. While we might feel the strain, I assure you besides some new facial fashion statements, our beloved animals at MHS know no difference. The care our animals receive under our staff and volunteers is truly second to none. To date, we have taken in over 450 animals and have adopted out almost 430! We have made beautiful renovations to several of our cat rooms, continue to have our monthly pet food pantry, and have several other renovation projects in work. Our team has certainly made the best of this tough year.

Looking ahead to 2021 we are going to continue to prioritize our mission. We will focus on renovation projects that allow for our staff and volunteers to rescue, rehabilitate, and adopt into loving homes as well as facilitate a healthy and enriching environment for our cats and dogs on site. Some of these projects include windows in some of our cat lounges, new flooring, and waterproof paneling in others. For our dogs; we are looking to renovate our back dog kennel area and potentially add a fenced-in area for exercise, training, and meets with potential adopters. For our volunteers; we will be integrating more technology into how we communicate and schedule. There are exciting things to look forward to in 2021!

On behalf of the MHS Board of Directors, I want to wish you a safe and happy holiday season from our families to yours. We appreciate all you have done for our community in 2020 and look forward to an even better 2021.

Jeff Parkhurst
